Residential Emergency Flood Cleanup & Water Removal

Residential Water Damage describes a large variety of damage and losses that can come as a result flooding. The flooding come from too much rain, a water source such as a river overflowing its banks, broken water pipes or an overflowing tub. The damage that results from the water, if not treated right away, can lead to more damage caused by rot, mold, rust or other moisture related destructive processes. The tricky thing about water damage is that once the immediate damage is addressed, slower acting damage like rot can continue if preventative measures are not taken.

Your homeowner’s insurance may or may not cover water damage and the process of repairing water damaged property. For example, a malfunctioning water pump is a common cause of water damage. However, many insurance policies do not cover such damage or only do so if you are willing to pay an additional fee.

Fortunately there are easy ways to avoid water damage. First, make sure you replace your old water heaters. Water heaters can do substantial damage when they burst and flood your basement with hot water. Water heaters typically last 10-12 years so do not wait for it to fail. Replace it every 10 years and you will save yourself a massive headache. Additionally, modern water heaters are more energy efficient and will save you money in the long run. Second, replace your rubber hoses with stainless steel mesh hoses. Rubber hoses with kinks and/or bulges need to be replaced immediately.

Last thing you want is your lawn watering hose bursting when you do not notice and flooding things. Thirdly, it is a good idea to avoid running your dishwasher and/or washing machine while you are out of the house. If something happens when you are out of the house, it could be hours before you can address the problem. Check your attic. Any water that leaks into your attic will eventually work its way down from the attic. Also check any air conditioner that may be installed in the attic at least once a year. A faulty system may lead to leaks can cause water damage to your attic. Lastly, consider installing a water alarm. These alarms can send you a quick alert if one of your water appliances starts to malfunction.

Despite all the preparation that you may take, sometimes water damage does happen. Considering that water damage can be insidious you will want to have it addressed right away and by people experts that can ensure that all the damage is taken care of.
